TONY CLARKE'S TOM TOM MOUNT FOR A BMW K1200RS

Tony bought a zinc U-Bolt from his local 'fastenings' store to use with his RAM-B-149 for around £2. This he opened up in a vice to fit the shape of the pillar which he protected with insulating tape and closed it again with a pair of molegrips.
The Tom Tom car kit was more of a problem. The composite backing plate which screws into the back of the car kit with 4x 3BA screws wasn't strong enough. Tony took a sheet of aluminium and drew the backing plate onto it. Then he drew around the diamond RAM mounting plate and cut out the composite shape and drilled the 4 holes for the Tom Tom backing plate plus two holes for the RAM mount. Tony wrapped the new plate in insulating tape and fitted it between the Tom Tom backing plate and the iPAQ holder. There wasn't enough clearance for the screws so Tony flattened one edge - this has the added advantage that it locks the screw. Tony then screwed the assembly to the diamond RAM mount using pincers as a spanner (because there's not enough clearance to got a spanner to the nut).
Tony did buy the components to screw the RAM-B-252 to the handlebar mounting. He didn't use this as solution A is quite adequate. However, the 252 plus the threaded screw from his tripod makes a very secure camera mount.
